OCULA
OCULA
DIFFUSE FIELD RECORDING SYSTEM
TRUE OMNIDIRECTIONAL WITH ACOUSTIC PRESSURE EQUALIZER
OVERVIEW
Capture the full essence of sound with OCULA, a unique omnidirectional microphone on the market, targeted specifically for diffuse field recordings.
From tracking classical ensambles, orchestral performances, or ambient soundscapes, OCULA offers unmatched accuracy and transparency in even the most complex acoustic environments.
With its true sound pressure transducer and the embedded 40mm acoustic equalizer, OCULA delivers a rich, precise and immersive auditory experience, enhancing your recordings by providing increased presence, proximity, and on-axis clarity in reverberant environments.
Whether recording the nuanced dynamics of a symphony orchestra or the subtle reverberations of a concert hall, OCULA’s tailored frequency response ensures faithful reproduction of every detail of the performance.
The OCULA system is avaliable in matched pairs and matched trios. The frequency response matching is guaranteed for +/- 0.5 dB over the whole audio spectrum

APE EQUALIZER
The 40mm pressure equalizer sphere is a passive acoustic processor that functions as both spatial and spectral modifier. It uses diffractions on the sphere surface to modify the sound field near the microphone diaphragm.
The effect is an upper-midrange/high frequency boost (without changing the low end) due to the pressure build-up at certain frequencies and more directionality at higher frequencies (enhanced directional focus).
EASE OF USE
The high quality and compact orbital mount allows the engineer to perform any microphone positioning with extreme precision, and guarantees a solid structure with simple and quick movements.
When attached to these mounts each Ocula mic can be angled exactly as desired very quickly and easily, and then locked securely in place.
Each Ocula mic weighs around 56g and has an integral 3/8-inch threaded insert at the bottom for attaching to a mic stand, and each mounts weigh only 52g , so the total weight of a stereo Ocula array is still only around 215g, and a Decca Tree array about 325 grams. Compared to most Decca Tree mic solutions that’s amazingly lightweight, and would therefore allow a much more slender (and thus less visible) support structure than usual, which is a very appealing feature.
OCULA con be either used without the orbital mount using the embedded 3/8” threaded brass insert, for traditional straight stand mounts or stereo bars.
